A pair of amazing and rare Windsor-type chairs in stained oak, early 20th Century. Provenance - Merlo Castle just outside Sundsvall in Sweden.
Beautiful sculptural shape, unusual model.
Merlo was bought in 1872 by Fredrik Bünsow (you may recognize him by the architectural competition that he announced in 1886 that resulted in Bünsowska Huset/Bünsowska house on Strandvägen in Stockholm) who spent his summers here.
In 1924 Merlo Castle was sold by Fredrik Bünsow's daughter. These chairs were purchased from the castle in 1930's when the castle's inventory was to be sold off.
Overall good condition, glue residue as shown on the pictures.
